“Good skin relies on an adequate supply of essential nutrients,” certified nutritionist and dietician Nicolette Pace told Huffington Post. “Some studies indicate that it is indeed possible to delay aging and get an improvement in skin condition by improving your diet.”

Here are 11 anti-aging superfoods that may help you to have younger looking skin.

1) Green Tea

Drink green tea because it’s high in antioxidants. These substances can prevent or delay cell damage. Mindbodygreen reported that research shows it helps protect skin against sun damage.

2) Oats

Add oats to your diet as they are low on the glycemic index. Your blood sugar doesn’t spike with low-glycemic foods. High-glycemic foods can cause acne and wrinkles. In addition, a natural plant chemical in oats helps fight against both skin cell damage and skin irritation.1

3) Nuts

Essential fatty acids in nuts make them good for your skin. While walnuts have the highest amount of omega-3 essential fatty acids, all nuts benefit your skin.

“Think of aging skin cells as slightly deflated balls. Omega-3 fatty acids plump up these cells so they’re bouncy again,” wrote mindbodygreen.

4) Grapes

The skin of grapes contain the polyphenol resveratrol. Resveratrol fights skin inflammation, according to New York City dermatologist Debra Jaliman.1

5) Oranges

Loaded with water, they hydrate cells and skin. Oranges are excellent sources of vitamin C, which helps make collagen. Collagen is what helps keep skin smooth and supple.1

6) Tomatoes

Tomatoes are also high in vitamin C. They also contain lycopene, which improves your circulatory system and protects skin from sun damage.3

7) Green and yellow vegetables

Start adding veggies to your meals. They are loaded with antioxidants which help to fight off oxidative stress — that’s cell damage caused by free radicals.

8) Avocados

Avocados provide a lot of monounsaturated fat, and that’s a good thing. It helps to prevent skin from getting dehydrated. And they are high in the antioxidant glutathione which works against acne and wrinkles.3

9) Lean beef

Lean beef provides high-quality protein which contains amino acids. Amino acids are known as the building blocks of collagen and elastin. Together, they work to keep skin firm and elastic.2

10) Salmon

You already know that essential fatty acids are good for your skin. Salmon delivers a lot of omega-3 fatty acids. “Wild salmon is phenomenal for your skin,” certified nutritionist Suzie Carpenter told HuffPost.

11) Kefir and yogurt

Kefir and yogurt are high in probiotics which fight redness and irritation. While the link between good gut bacteria and skin is not yet known, studies show that probiotics reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, according to HuffPost.
