Karine describes the problems she faces with sinus infections.

Karine:
I can thankfully say I don’t have problems anymore. Part of what happens during an allergic reaction is your sinuses swell, that the membranes, the tissues in your sinuses swell, and after years of that happening, the swelling doesn’t go down anymore, and polyps have a tendency to develop. And where I found myself 10 years ago was absolute obstruction of all of my sinus cavities, due to the infiltration of intense polyps, to the point where I was sick with sinus infections 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, always on antibiotics.

I didn’t know any other lifestyle. I didn’t know what food tasted like. I didn’t know what it smelled like. I had to over-spice my food to get any kind of taste or smell out of it at all. And finally found the right doctor and went and had a surgical procedure to clean out all of those polyps, to straighten out my septum, which was another issue that I had, and just like Xolair was a life-changing process for my asthma, having that surgery was a life-changing process for my allergies.

Afterwards, I wasn’t sick anymore. I didn’t have to take antibiotics anymore. I felt good. I could smell. I could taste. I had to learn how to eat all over again. Everything that I had been over-spicing for years was suddenly so spicy that I couldn’t put it in my mouth, so I kind of had to start the spice scale all over again.

So yeah, kind of similar processes, both allergic and asthmatic. Technology is an amazing thing, and when you find the right combination of elements, whether it’s a medical procedure or some sort of medication, it frees up so much for you. It is awesome.
