Dr. Weeks shares the effects dairy can have on sinus symptoms.

Dr. Weeks:
Dairy influences the sinuses in many ways. Many patients have underlying milk or dairy allergies that they are unaware of, which in fact can lead to significant nasal and sinus congestion. Once the nasal membranes become swollen or congested, the patient is at much higher risk of developing an underlying or associated problem.

One can compare the sinuses to any other area where there’s a limited amount of space for functions to occur. When the sinus mucosa or the nasal mucosa becomes swollen, the normal functions are not able to be performed and the sinuses become impacted or congested with mucous, leading to infection. By taking dairy in a situation where a patient may have a dairy allergy, they are really predisposing themselves to developing underlying nasal congestion and further problems.
