In honor of International Literacy Day, I thought it would be appropriate to put together a list of some of the most phenomenal books regarding sex, women's bodies, reproductive and sexual health and more. Here are the books you need to pick up at your local bookstore or library today - they're amazing resources and will help you at any stage, at any age!

1. It's Perfectly Normal, by Robie H. Harris. This was the book my parents used to introduce me to the life that was puberty and sex. A wonderful children's book whose lesson is that bodies change, our feelings about bodies change, and that it's all okay. The illustrations are fantastic, incorporating a diverse range of bodies and body types. And as it's just celebrated 15 years of publication, it shouldn't be difficult to find.

2. Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, by Christiane Northrup. This book is what I'd call the holy grail of female body texts. From puberty to the way your body changes in your 20s, 30s, 40s, and through menopause, Northrup tackles many issues that may affect our bodies. From PMS to sexual intimacy issues, Northrup does an amazing job connecting how our bodies react to emotional, physical and psychological issues. And as a gynecologist, Northrup knows a thing or two about our vaginas and what makes them tick.

3. Our Bodies, Ourselves, by the Boston Women's Health Book Collective. This is the book I recommend to budding and experienced feminists. A complete reference book for women, this text also focuses on the importance of sexual health, reproductive justice, political and economic factors that affect women and their health, and the value of community based organizing around these issues.

4. The Joy of Sex, by Alex Comfort. Originally published in 1979, this book was made famous for its extensive and nonjudgmental overview of all things sexual and sensual. Now updated for the 21st century, the book is sure to be a spice-up-your-life resource.
