Are you a baby boomer? Do you use online dating sites? If you do, you are not alone. More and more people in this age group and beyond are turning to the online dating scene. Check out the video for more!

Do your parents or grandparents date online? It may be more common than you think. Hi! I’m Shana O’Connor with EmpowHER.com and this is you’re HER Week In Health.

Online dating for seniors may sound a little funny to you but it is actually growing in popularity for those adults who are looking for love or just companionship later on in life.

According to the website, Third Age.com, the over-forty group is flourishing on online dating sites.

E-Harmony, one of the web’s leading dating sites, says that in the last five years, 55+ users have been the fastest growing demographic in all relationship oriented sites. In terms of those who choose to use online dating tools, seniors are well represented. So you are far from the only one out there.

For more proof, look no further than SeniorPeopleMeet.com, an online dating forum devoted exclusively to helping the elderly hook up. The service, which describes itself as “The Senior People Network,” reportedly attracts 1,000 new members every day, thanks in large part to shifting demographic and cultural trends.

Some older people may give you the cold shoulder when asked about the prospect of online dating, or some grown children may worry that Mom or Dad will somehow be taken advantage of by con-men or women looking for a gravy train, but the fact is that these opinions are changing and it’s important for older users to follow these tips when dipping their toes back into the dating pool online.

Make sure to show the REAL you. Don’t choose a profile picture that is 10 years younger and 25 pounds lighter. You want the right person to be able to accept you for who you really are, not who you used to be.

Don’t get blown away by the first pretty picture that you see either. Be sure to look at his or her interests or hobbies, remember you are looking for someone who will be more in sync with you and what you like to do. People will try to put their best foot forward and may fudge a little bit on their profiles so just be savvy and try and read a little between the lines.

In the end, it’s a changing world out there and more and more people are trying this out.
