Are There Different Types Of Fiber And What Should Women Look For - Ask The Nutritionist

By EmpowHER August 9, 2012 - 1:22pm

Real women ask a real nutritionist if there are different types of fiber and what women should keep a look out for when looking to add fiber to their diet.

Are there different types of fiber? What should I be looking for?

That is a good question. There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber slows down digestion in the stomach and small intestines. The other, insoluble fiber, helps to increase stool volume. It stimulates normal bowel contractions. There are benefits to consuming both kinds of fiber. Optimal Solutions Complete Protein and Vitamin Shake contains inulin which is a soluble fiber.
