Dr. Schallock shares how a woman can prepare for pregnancy.

Dr. Schallock:
Well, if you are, first of all, if you are on birth control pills or using any sort of birth control method at this time, we usually do recommend stopping the birth control pill for at least a month ahead of time.

But to keep in that rhythm of taking a pill every day, we do recommend that you start on a daily prenatal vitamin, at least for a month before you try to conceive. And what you are really after in that prenatal vitamin is the folic acid to help prevent neural tube defects.

Also start, you know, if you drink, consuming any alcohol or do any sort of activities like that, to kind of curtail those. Try to eat healthy, exercise, get your rest, and those are probably the best things that you can do.
