Sarah discusses if she was concerned about her children one day suffering from multiple sclerosis.

Sarah:
Passing MS along to my children is definitely a very real fear, and I was almost relieved when we had trouble conceiving and we decided to adopt. We were told, “You weren’t going to be able to conceive on your own,” and we decided not to go down the road of assisted reproduction. And I was very relieved that, okay we are going to adopt. We are going to have this beautiful baby, and then I don’t have to worry about passing this on.

And then we had a wonderful surprise a year later, and I have a genetic daughter as well. But for people who are considering whether or not to do it, there’s no guarantees that your child will get MS and there’s no guarantee that they won’t, but there’s no guarantee that they are not going to get some other type of disease, and are you willing to risk missing out on something wonderful?

But for those people who are really worried about passing it on, then there is always the option of adopting which is an amazing, wonderful experience.
