Sarah explains how women who suspect they have multiple sclerosis should advocate for themselves in the doctor's office.
Sarah:
Well, one thing to do is make sure you are prepared when you go into the doctor’s visit. Have a list of symptoms you are experiencing and how it’s really impacting your life and questions you may have. Have that written down with you and also a copy for your doctor so you don’t forget, and then make sure that every point is addressed before you leave, and if necessary, bring somebody with you.
If you are the type of person who might be afraid to speak up, bring somebody who isn’t. Or if you are afraid you are going to forget what the doctor says, bring somebody to help remind you or bring a tape recorder or something to help record what the doctor says. And don’t take no for an answer, or at least have a good explanation about why no is the answer.
