In this edition of EmpowHER's "HER Daily Dose" Bailey Mosier recognizes that May is National Multiple Sclerosis Month and talks about what is being done to bring about awareness for the disease.

Hi, I’m Bailey Mosier. This is your EmpowHER HER Daily Dose.
There are approximately 400,000 people living in the U.S. today with multiple sclerosis, and another 2 million people have the disease worldwide. Join us here at EmpowHER by taking part in National Multiple Sclerosis month this May to help spread awareness about the disease.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. Epidemiologists are uncertain of the exact causes of the disease, but have identified factors such as gender, genetics, age, geography, and ethnic background that play a role in developing the disease. Multiple sclerosis has also been found to be significantly more common – at least 2-3 times as much – in women than men.

There are 200 new cases of multiple sclerosis reported in the U.S. each week, at least half of which are women. This month and all year long, do your part to spread awareness and help put an end to this disease.

That wraps up your EmpowHER HER Daily Dose. Join me here at EmpowHER.com every weekday for your next dose of women’s health.

Until there is serious research into the various Progressive forms of MS, people like my wife will continue to suffer and loose more of her mobility. She has always needed my help to get around except after she has a serious reoccurance and the steriods provide temporary relief. It makes me cry to see my wife who was once extremely energetic and full of life in her current condition.

My God be with her and bless her remaining years.
