Kathy recalls what went through her mind the moment she learned she had multiple sclerosis.

Kathy:
Well I was, when I was diagnosed, I was in complete denial, obviously. I sat there and said, "Now, what's this little twit thinking? He doesn’t know what he is talking about." Unfortunately, it was very hard to maintain. My father had been very, very disabled and had died just recently, just prior to that time, of a disease called progressive supranuclear palsy, which is very much like ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease, and he was completely paralyzed for many years prior to dying.

So, the thought that I would have a neurological disease probably should have occurred to me, but it didn’t. You know, we keep thinking, "I am young. I am healthy." I think it was those young kids that I still had at home.
