Dr. Carrillo discusses how soon you can attempt to conceive after a miscarriage and shares if having sex while pregnant increases the risk of another miscarriage.
Dr. Carrillo:
Whenever we have a miscarriage we always want to know when can I try again; can I try next month; will it be safe?
And the short answer is there’s no right answer. I personally, as well as several of my colleagues, believe that it’s probably best for both an emotional reason and a physical reason to allow your body to recover.
I typically recommend that we wait three months of a normal period before we try to get pregnant again, and in that timeframe it’s very important that you continue to use prenatal vitamins going back again to how you can increase the chances of a successful pregnancy.
The other thing that people want to talk about and are very concerned about is sex after miscarriage. Is it safe the next time we get pregnant to have sex?
And honestly, it probably is safe but one of the common things that can occur after intercourse at any stage of pregnancy is spotting because the cervix can sometimes have a little bit of bleeding after intercourse, it can be extremely alarming for the couple if they have spotting after intercourse.
And sometimes I think couples who have had loss elect to forego intercourse during the first trimester.
