Listen to Dr. Ramsey explain when saliva tests are effective.

Dr. Ramsey:
It is effective when you are measuring adrenal health. I do not use saliva testing at all for testing androgens like testosterone or DHEA or progesterone or estrogen because they are just not reliable. Many things will affect the reliability of that test, one being cosmetics, another being facial cleansers because a lot of them have hormones in them now so that our skin does not age as quickly, and that contaminates the test. So saliva testing for sex steroid hormones is not appropriate, but it is very appropriate for adrenal hormones.
