Never try to think on a flight of stairs. You’ll lose your thoughts every time. My capacity to remember has begun its decline and very often whatever it is that I need is on the opposite floor of the one I’m on. After getting to the top of the stairs, I often think of something I meant to tell my husband or son. But inevitably the thought disappears from my head on the stairs so that by the time I get back downstairs – the news is gone.

My memory for things that happened when I was a kid is so sharp it’s like they happened yesterday. But don’t ask me what I had for breakfast. The loss is relatively new but I’ve already learned that without Post-Its I’m sunk. Did you ever buy an item of clothing at the store only to get home and realize you already had it? How about taking a trip up to the attic to look for a yearbook and coming down without it after enjoying a nostalgic look through a box of homemade holiday cards covered with macaroni and spray-painted gold? The worst was when I said to my husband – let me ask you this, and lost the question before I could ask it.

Another fun thing about age-related memory loss is the fact that I can tell and retell stories to friends over and over again, but thankfully because their memories are as bad as mine they act interested every time.

I do crossword puzzles and other memory-improving games but the truth is that……………..wait a minute, what was I talking about?
