Melissa describes how her employers have helped to make her fight against lung cancer a little easier.
Melissa:
They have been absolutely wonderful. From the very start of it, people came to my room every single day. It was almost an overload of people, you know, wanting to call, bringing flowers, bringing gifts, sending gifts and, I actually had to come to a point on my blog to tell people, "Please, no more gifts,” and come up with a list of items that I actually did need versus items that I didn’t necessarily need so, that was something, and then I got an on slew of those sorts of gifts.
But, more than that, from a mental standpoint, they really have been absolutely supportive. Just knowing that they are there for me; knowing that while I am here in the hospital that they will still cover me at work, that they aren’t taking my accounts or anything like that while I am gone and, just knowing that my place will always still be there.
Human Resources department has been great, helping me along with insurance and some of those sticky types of things that aren’t always fun to deal with. So, I am very grateful that they have been supportive.
