Dr. Sanderson discusses if there are any promising alternative treatments for lung cancer.

Dr. Sanderson:
The prospects for improvement in lung cancer management are great but at this point there’s still much research is needed. There is interest in the genetic profiling of tumors and it’s theoretically possible that we will be able to target malignancies more specifically based on a specific tumor’s genetic makeup.

But at the present time those are still in the experimental stage, and I think its one of the reasons that individuals who are diagnosed with lung cancer should be willing and anxious to participate in clinical trials because clinical trials are usually done in institutions that are at the front, at the cutting edge of research in lung cancer management.
