Dr. Rosen describes his inspiration for helping women through blood cancers.

Dr. Rosen:
First feel that it’s my obligation because of the training I have had to help as many people as possible with these devastating diseases. There is no greater pleasure and honor than taking care of another human being and helping them through a difficult period, and in the case of the blood cancers, because there’s such a spectrum of disorders and because there are so many nuances in therapy, when you develop the expertise to treat women who are faced with these different conditions and you know that by applying your knowledge you can have a profound impact, there is nothing I can imagine that’s more gratifying.

I have seen so many success stories, and that’s what inspires me and motivates me every day, and I think the most important quality that a physician can have, besides being able to listen to your patients, is having empathy for what they are contending with.

I was on a site, and I had a wonderful experience on Tuesday. I was away over the weekend at our national meeting, and it turned out that one of my patients, who is a young woman, who had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, actually a rare type called mediastinal lymphoma, diagnosed the day after her honeymoon, after going through a very intensive treatment she has had two sets of twins, and I can’t tell you what a magical feeling it was to see her walk into the office with the pictures and her beautiful smile.
