"Ellen Schneiderman, R.N., shares what will happen once a woman's water breaks and what a woman can expect immediately after giving birth."

If you've ever kicked off labor by having your water break at the beginning of labor, you know that it is a clear odorless liquid. You also know it does not feel at all like urination and that the flow can't be controlled. Once your water breaks it's important to get to the hospital as quickly as possible because the game has suddenly and dramatically changed.

After giving birth, skin-to-skin bonding, with baby on mama's chest, is considered a top priority. It's believed that this skin-to-skin bonding, done right after giving birth, can have a lifelong effect on your child. This will imprint you on your baby. Recognition of your smell, taste and voice enhances the baby's brain and sensory development, and helps solidify the lifelong attachment between mother and child.
