Michelle King Robson, the founder of EmpowHER, explains how she developed diverticulosis after her irritable bowel syndrome/IBS diagnosis.

Michelle King Robson:
Being diagnosed with irritable bowel, it went to where I was, I had these tears in the lining of my colon wall, which I was diagnosed with diverticulosis. And diverticulosis is when you have these pockets that occur. It’s usually from constipation or going back and forth between the two that you get these little tears in the colon wall, and those tears never mend; they are always there.

So, if you eat something and it happens to get inside of there and it stays in there, you can cause an infection. And then that is what is called diverticulitis, which is the other thing that I had.
