Dr. Goldstein discusses if a woman can experience infertility if she takes birth control pills for a long period of time.

Dr. Goldstein:
They shouldn’t. Birth control pills do not cause infertility. However, some of the things with long-term birth control pills is it does allow women to postpone childbearing for many years, and frequently women will wait until their late 30s to start trying to have children, and we certainly know that fertility rates are much lower in the late 30s than in the 20s.

So whereas it does not cause infertility or decreased ability to become pregnant, postponing pregnancy does. In addition, birth control pills can mask other disorders that can cause infertility such as polycystic ovarian syndrome because they will control her cycles, and, which will give the appearance that she is ovulating but in fact she is not.
