Hysterectomy: Should Women Get A Second Opinion? - Dr. Ahdoot

Dr. Ahdoot explains if a patient should receive a second opinion when considering a hysterectomy.

Dr. Ahdoot:
Generally our training always recommends that the risks and benefits of surgery should be discussed, and in most events we ask the patient to actually get a second opinion.

If the idea of a hysterectomy or an invasive procedure is actually correct, the second opinion should actually match the first one. If there’s a discrepancy, I would encourage anyone to proceed to a higher level person who does hysterectomies perhaps more often than others and to seek their opinion. Of course, the most important thing is when one procedure is right for one individual, it may not be right for another.
