Dr. Scherwitz tells women what heart tests they should ask for if they follow healthy lifestyles and do not have a family history of heart disease.

Dr. Scherwitz:
For a woman who is healthy and doesn’t have a family history of heart disease or other obvious risk factors, she should have a lipid panel which involves LDL and HDL cholesterol and if possible subtractions of the LDL cholesterol. She should have a look at blood glucose level, she should look at blood pressure levels, should look at c-reactive protein which is a measure of how much inflammation there is in the bloodstream which can affect the arteries of the heart and possibly homocysteine with elevated levels of homocysteine can be very damaging to the coronary arteries.
