Stop Waiting on Your Weight!

Reality check list: Procreated? Check! In mid-life? Check! Work in a chair? Check! Eat, at all? Check!

OK ladies! With all we have been through, we need to give ourselves a break!

Yes, we have dealt with a lot in our emotional lives, especially if you have experienced divorce. We have gone through some serious changes. We have had a lot to deal with in every aspect of our lives.

But ladies... we have to stop waiting on our weight!

A recent stroll past the mirror led me to a double-take: “Who the hell is THAT?” Oh. It’s just me, a physical manifestation of the challenges I’ve endured as of late... And they are written all over my body!

But not to worry; I’ll just work on losing that extra poundage brought on by all the stress and those extra wrinkles brought on by Father Time walking across my face. No really, I got this!

And as soon as I get that done, I’ll get back to enjoying my life. I’ll do those things I’ve been putting off because I didn’t like the way I looked, or the size of my pants. As soon as I check those off my list, I’ll get back to living!

... You're kidding me, right???

Here is an example of how this happens: Last year I tore my meniscus in my right knee and was unable to exercise for six months, post-op. In that time, I sat at my computer and focused on my writing and my business.

Needless to say the lower half of my body took on a new identity without clearing it with me first.

One day I was trying to put on my favorite pair of jeans when it dawned on me that clearly those jeans had just been washed and consequently shrunk in the process... because, you know, they do that.

So I go out to the mirror, jeans still stuck half-way up my thighs, and almost trip into the sink because I can’t walk.

The all-out panic ensued when I turned around to see why the jeans could not go up any higher. There it was, probably the biggest butt I have ever had outside of pregnancy.

So immediate action was taken to shave off that excess without using a machete.

Now, being limited in my exercise because of my knee became a challenge. I wanted to, quite literally, run my butt off. Alas, I couldn’t do that anymore. And you can only cut back so much on your food intake without, well, dying.

Little did I realize that I was so wrapped up in my own ego and what I “looked” like that I wasn’t enjoying my life. I kept thinking that everything would be better when I was smaller. Inevitably that jumpstarted the vicious cycle of thinking that I was not good enough like I am.

The moral of this story is stop waiting on your weight! Life is too short to let your ego keep you from enjoying each and every moment to the fullest!

Do not to gauge your self-worth by your pant size. Yes, take care of your body, and get back to a healthy weight for your frame, but don't think that defines you. YOU define you. Don't impose that baggage upon yourself.

If you've read my book, you know that I have a chapter on living an energetic lifestyle, which covers various fun ways of dealing with that alien butt.

Divorce has given you a second chance at happiness. Don't let something like your ego keep you from from enjoying every moment you are lucky enough to experience.

As soon as you stop focusing on your weight and start focusing on your new life, your weight will take care of itself. You won't be using food for comfort or entertainment. You will have new, exciting things to fill that void food used to fill.

So get back to living. Enjoy each moment for the blessing it is, and thank the Universe for your second chance at happiness!
