I went to see my fertility specialist yesterday morning. The Depo thinned out the lining of my uterus so much that there is actually a 4cm rip in my uterus. Thus the bleeding every two weeks for 10+ days. It's not a period, it's actual bleeding because I'm injured. I am scheduled for a Hysterosalpingogram next month to find out exactly how much damage has been done. I can't believe that it's been this way for 10 months and no one thought to look.

I've seen my doctor a few times about the irregularity of my cycle (not to mention the frequency). I'm not anemic. I take iron suppliments just in case daily. Hopefully things pan out the way we all want them to. My biggest frustration is that my whole life my parents said "it only takes one time and you'll get pregnant" (trying to steer me away from sex). They DIDN'T tell me that there can be all these problems down the line that affect your chances and that once you WANT a baby, things might not be that simple. I think more parents should make that clear and be more informed on what birth control choices their daughters make. The Depo shot is wonderful if you don't like getting your period, but it also complicates getting pregnant when you really want to. No one ever told me this when it was recommended to me by my doctor. The side effects were not clear either "may have slight weight gain" did not accomodate for the 43 pounds I gained in 2 years. Nor did she explain that my migrane syndrome may be triggered by the shot, or that it would thin out my uterine lining so much that it would shed every 2 weeks and leave me with fertility problems. I think some doctors should educate themselves on the methods they're preaching to young women before they prescribe them.
If it weren't for my doctor, I may have been a mother already.

I will be starting my treatments in 13 days. So, a little less than 2 weeks. Still nervous. I have been doing a lot of research and trying to educate myself on some of the different medications they might put me on. I have over-active ovaries so they'll probably put me on something to slow them down. (I get my period twice a month with bleeding usually lasting 10 out of the 14 days in my cycle) Because my uterus sheds so often, if an egg was fertilized, it would have been washed out already before it even had the chance to burrow. Only having 8-10 days without bleeding is beginning to hinder the process.

I'm just nervous that, like my OB/GYN, they wont be able to figure out why I'm having problems getting pregnant. And the side effects of some of the drugs they can put you on to stimulate ovarian activity.

We're glad you're here! Do you know the course for treatment your doctor is suggesting for you? That may help you to connect with more women who are undergoing, or have already undergone any treatment similar to yours.
What are you nervous/apprehensive about? The process, or if it will work? Please explain only as much as you are comfortable sharing.
I have many friends who had fertility treatments. They all had different experiences, but they all ended up with healthy babies, so it all worked out.

I would like to come into contact with more women taking fertility treatments. I'd like to learn more about their experiences and side effects. I'm going to start the fertility treatment next month and am very apprehensive and nervous.

Hi ladies,
I was 35, and 37 when I had my children. So I'm on board with what Susan is saying. My mother was done having children at 26 (when she had me), so she was a "young grandmother," when my eldest sister started having children at 20 years old. That is something I thankfully won't need to worry about, since I likely will be pushing 60 or more before I become a grandmother (I think that would qualify as more like elderly, right Susan?).
I am comfortable in my own skin, which is great for being a mother. Who's with me? Yay!

I would like to connect with other women who are over 40 and either pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant. For me this would be extremely helpful.

I would like to connect with other "over 35" women who are or have gone down the path of fertility treatment after receiving a high FSH reading (15.9).
