Dear baby dreamin30,
I just tried to post and lost my information again...I don't know why this keeps happening to me. I don't have time to write posts or emails and then lose eveything before it gets up on the site.

So I will simply say I was recounted many experiences where I have had insensitivity to anethesia, freezing agents and medications.

I will research EDS. Thanks.

Sleep well. Kali

Hey ladies,

Susan-did they use Lidocaine to numb you for your c-section? Insensitivity to anethesia and Lidocaine are symptoms of EDS. I know it's rare. But you may have a high tolerance. Either way its worth looking into. I found a great video on this site https://www.empowher.com/ehlers-danlos-syndrome-eds/content/ehlers-danlos-syndrome-kristins-story.

Do you use a light therapy machine?

Well, hopefully you both are resting well tonight. Talk to you soon.

Dear babydreamin30,
Wow what a scarey experience. It happened to Susan too.

I hope the diagnosis can lead to treatment that will help you. This could be the answer for you. I need to research this disease. Maybe there is a connection for some us. Tell us about it if don't mind and have the time.

I have a laptop, but it is old and I was told by the last techie the hard drive is going and it could explode at any minute. I honestly just haven't researched the light therapy yet...but this laptop is full of research I hope it doesn't blow up soon. It's too old to try and back things up. There's no place for a disc or one of those sticks...am I supposed to back up on a CD?

If you can look into it that would be great. I stay off the computer in the middle of the night as it is too arousing for me.

Sleep to all of us tonight.

Do you have a laptop? I'll research it tonight and let you know what I can find.

So, I asleep during the endoscopy. I remember them putting the tube down my throat but couldn't feel anything. But I woke up mid way through the colonoscopy from the pain. It only hurt because they have to bend it. But they gave me a second dose and I was out in seconds. The doctor said people usually have amnesia after, so he was surprised that I remembered it at all. Eeks!

I am hopeful about the EDS diagnoses...maybe with that they figure out what direction to take for treatment. Who knows. :)

Dear babydreamin30,
Thanks for the support. This "Blue Sleep Therapy" sounds interesting, but I don't have any of the devices. I do a lot of meditative breathing techniques and rely on my old fashion CD player to use many guided meditations for sleep...sometime it works to get me back to sleep for an hour or so.

I've been on every sleep medication available in Canada with no success. As well as using medications normally prescribed for other conditions that have the effect of drowsiness. No success. I know what you mean about your Fiance...I have friends who can fall alseep and have their pain relieved by taking a Tylenol...they so don't understand. I'm glad you have the support of your partner.

I have had both of those procedures but I never woke up. You woke up during the procedures! I have never heard of this EDS condition. Sounds like you and your family doctor are getting some answers which is good.

I would think it makes sense that the years of Insomnia has triggered your Fibromyalgia.

Thanks for sending me restful thoughts. Last night I was up every hour, but I grabbed 5 hours...that's a good night for me.

I haven't researched the light-therapy yet to know if it's an option for me, but I'd be interested in how Susan uses it as well. Kali

Once a doctor told me that years of insomnia probably brought on my Fibromyalgia. That the years of stress on my body sent it into a downward spiral. Sleep is so important.

But insomnia often triggers anxiety (for me personally.) As the clock ticks on I start to think about how tired I'll be the next day, how exhausted and long the day will be and how sore I'll be. It's a cycle. I wish I could cure it for everyone!

Susan- how do you use light-therapy to help you? I have an ap on my nook called Blue Sheep Therapy that is awesome. It is supposed help your brain go into REM sleep faster. There is also a setting to use first thing in the morning to help you wake up.

Hi Kali,

I am so sorry to hear that you have been suffering with such terrible insomnia for so long. I hope and pray that you soon find relief. How have you been sleeping lately?

Do you have an ipad, tablet or smartphone? There is an ap you can download called "Blue Sleep Therapy" that is really calming. You have to turn out all the lights in the room and place your phone or tablet against a wall. The screen changes from blue to white and you breathe in and out as the screen changes color. You can set the time for 5 minutes increments, but I have never made it through a whole 5 minutes before falling asleep. Is this an option for you??

Do any of the prescribe sleep medications work for you? My doctors have prescribed everything under the sun to help me sleep. Even anti-depressants and anti-seizure medication. None of them seem to work as well on me as they do on other people.

My Fiance can take one benedryl and sleep for 10 hours straight. He will wake up groggy. I can take 2 ambien and stay up all night watching Lifetime movies, sleep an hour or two and still wake up before he does.

Recently, I had to go in for a colonoscopy & endoscopy due to ongoing stomach problems. This was the first time I had ever been put under general anesthesia, and I ended waking up half through the procedure! Turns out my liver processes those type of substances twice as fast as the norm.

My doctor said in 25 years of doing that he had never had anyone wake up mid-way through a procedure. My doctor thinks I have EDS (Ehler's Danhlos Syndrome) because insensitivity to anesthesia, pain medications and certain sleep medication is a symptom. As we looked into the symptoms we realized that I have 75% of the symptoms for EDS. It is extremely rare they say less than 1 in 5,000 people have it, so it is almost never tested for.

Anyway, hopefully you can try the light-therapy and it works for you!! Keep me posted. Sending you restful thoughts from California!

-Kirsten
