Sleep is very vital for the physical and mental health of any individual. We have to determine whether our sleeping schedule is appropriate or not according to our work schedule. On average, adults should receive between seven and eight hours of sleep each night. But the sleeping schedule for different individuals varies. Some people feels good with seven to eight hours consecutive sleep at night while others feels better by taking six to seven hours sleep at night and then taking one to two hour for daytime napping. Different Sleeping postures also affect a person’s health. All sleeping postures have their pros and cons with respect to health issues.
1. Back Sleeping
Sleeping on back promotes natural spinal alignment without placing extra pressure on our back. By sleeping on our back with our arms resting at sides is considered as best position for spine and neck health. Back sleeping also reduces acid reflux and minimize wrinkles problem.
However, there are some drawbacks of back sleeping. According to doctors it may increase snoring. It may also increase sleep apnea that causes lack of breathing during sleep.

2. Side Sleeping
Side sleeping is considered as great for overall health. This posture prevents us from neck and back pain. Side sleeping also reduces the snoring problem. Doctors recommend side sleeping during pregnancy period as it increases circulation of heart which is good for both mom and baby. The thick and firm pillow is best suited for side sleepers.
One main disadvantage of side sleeping is that it increases wrinkles problem. As by lying on one side all night put pressure on one side of the face which is a main cause of wrinkles. Side sleeper can be divided into two types. One is right side sleepers and second is left side sleepers.
3. Stomach Sleeping
Stomach sleeping is considered as worst sleeping posture by doctors. It makes difficult to maintain a neutral position with our spine. In this posture, we have to place our head on one side for hours which may cause neck pain. This posture also put pressure on our nerves which lead to numbness and pain. Stomach sleeping is prohibited during pregnancy as it reduces the baby’s space to move around and increase oxygen flow. This posture is also not good for wrinkles problem as it may elevate wrinkles issue.
However, one advantage of stomach sleeping is that snoring problem is reduced by it. Thin pillow is best suited for stomach sleepers as it keeps our spine aligned during sleep

4. Fetal Position
Fetal position is a variation of side sleeping. A great percentage of people prefer this posture. The benefit of fetal position is that it relieves stress on vital organs such as liver, stomach and lungs. It is also beneficial for snoring problem and during pregnancy, this posture is also beneficial.
One drawback of fetal posture is that it increases the chance of neck and back pain as spinal cord is not well aligned. Wrinkles problems also tend to increase due to fetal position
