PMDD
I think PMDD is one of the harder subjects to talk about, because it's treated with the same drugs as for depression, plus it's kind of like PMS and PMS is really hard to talk about, too. Well, this is a place to talk about PMDD, what's it's like, what's worked, what hasn't worked. Here's a link to an online article I wrote about PMDD if you want a little more information, but please let's discuss it here in the empowher PMDD group. http://www.pmscomfort.com/pms-symptoms/pmdd.aspx
Thanks, and I hope you're willing to chime in and let your voice be heard!
Thanks so much Susan. It is very unfortunate that anyone gets labelled crazy simply because their hormones, and possibly their neurotransmitters, are out of balance.
Interestlngly, the old term "hysteria" has it's root in the word "hyster" which is latin for "womb." Unfortunately, in the old days this meant when women had severe PMS (which we now call PMDD) the treatment was a hysterectomy - since the uterus was considered the source of the problem.
Glad that doesn't happen anymore, and hope we can create more understanding about this condition!
Best,
Dr. Daniel Heller
Wow, no one has posted in this group yet. Well, I'll just take a moment to point out that if you feel brave enough to share what you've been going through, it might really help another woman who feel isolated and alone and might be afraid she's going crazy, because she doesn't know anyone with PMDD. That's what is great about empowher.com, it can bring people together to give them hope and courage to face their lives and their symptoms. So - if you have questions about PMDD, or experience to share, remember you might be helping another woman by doing so.
