Breast Cancer Prevention and Mammograms

By Blogger October 30, 2013 - 8:00am

I am now year two into getting my annual mammograms and I have to tell you that each time I go through it I hold my breath, figuratively. As a mother of a young child, and only 42 years old, I just pray that nothing will show up. I also need to get better at my monthly breast exams in the shower. There are many women who forgo tests like this because of anxiety and fear of what might happen and if cancer shows up. The problem with this approach to healthcare is that you need to take action to prevention disease, where possible, and not wait for it to creep up on you when it's too late. So, for all of us who have busy schedules, carpools, full-time jobs, and so much more that give us reasons or excuses not to get this test done, STOP. Breast cancer is not a joke. It must be taken seriously. And, since we have breasts we need to get them checked. I implore you, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, don't wait, investigate.

Thanks Susan for your response. I am sorry to hear about your mom and her lost battle with breast cancer. I wish you good health and stand strong with you as women taking our health into our own hands and utilizing available preventative measures to reduce disease risk.
