7 Ways to Feel Good About the Skin You Are In

Having a healthy and robust sense of self is not easy in this modern world. With all the stress and expectations that we put on ourselves and others put on us, it can be challenging to feel good about the person you are. 

Being comfortable with the skin you are in only gets more difficult after traumatic or hard experiences. Whether it is a bad break-up, an injury or accident, or some other life-changing experience, such things can shake the image we have of ourselves. 

It is challenging enough to figure out the person you want to be, much less after an event that has caused you to lose confidence. 

Finding yourself may sound like some cliche, but it is a necessary part of life. After all, it is your life that you are living and no one else’s. 

Here are some ways to re-centre yourself and feel good about who you are.

Self-Reflection

The best way to start on your journey to self-discovery or re-discovery is to take some time and reflect on what makes you feel unworthy. 

Getting to the bottom of the why will help you find a way to overcome these thoughts and ideas you have of yourself. Identify the negative feelings that you have and figure out their causes. 

From there, you can either change your perception or find a way to improve on that part of yourself.

Work On Yourself

In the busyness and bustle of everyday life, it is easy to get caught up in the flow of work and stress and forget to do the things you love and want to do. 

Allocate time for yourself every day, even if it is just to relax. Pick up some old hobbies or seek out new ones. Do not hesitate to immerse yourself in activities that make you feel happy or most like yourself. 

Prioritise You

There are lots of reasons why we can forget to put ourselves first. In trying to get the acceptance of others, we will put our needs behind that of others. 

While this may be good and noble, it should not be the constant default. It would help if you were allowed and encouraged to do things that make you happy, regardless of what others think. 

Self-Validation

Stop seeking validation from external sources and find it from yourself. Feel satisfied with what you have accomplished without needing others to verify or justify those feelings. 

Grades, weight, height, productivity at work; all these things are just numbers and do not define you as a person. Ideally, you should be your source of self-worth.

Take good care of your body. This can come in the form of eating a balanced and healthy diet or through exercise. 

Working out can get your blood pumping and endorphins flowing, making you feel happier and more accomplished. It will also help to make you look as well as feel better.

Clothes are more than a protective layer defending you from the elements. They can also imbue confidence and strength.
