Hi Sue!
I just posed a question about Amberen, which I started taking on the 27th of September. I'd HAD IT after 4 years of relentless hot flashes and night sweats. I'd tried the dreaded effexor (pristiq), accupuncture (somewhat helpful, but really expensive), cohosh, flax, evening primrose oil, something called Wisdom Menopause formula (actually, this stuff did help a bit). This amberen stuff seems to be really doing the trick after one month, but I'm concerned about the estradiol levels rising after the month of using it. I just got tested at my gynecologist's after I experienced slight spotting for a day after one month on the amberen, and it was up to 56, which my MD says is perimenopausal. I'd hadn't had a period in over a year. My sister is dying of 4th stage estrogen receptive breast cancer as I write this. There's no hormones in amberen, but it does stimulate the body's natural production of estradiol. Consequently, I'm scared s ---tless, but I don't want to stop taking it and suffer the stupid sweats again! It's a 3 month course of taking the pills and then you're off for 3 months.
Hope I'm not doing something bad here. My MD told me he didn't see anything wrong with it, but did recommend that I stop for a month and have my blood tested again to see what happens with the estradiol levels.

I'd like to know what women are using to manage the symptoms of menopause. I've tried numerous homeopathic, natural remedies for hot flashes and night sweats, with variable results. I'm also curious as to how to lose weight after menopause. Just what can I expect to have to do differently.

I'd love to find out any natural ways of working through menopause. I'm currently using acupunture, which helps even out my moods. Shiatsu is nice too, and feels great. I also found that during a euphoric mood time I don't want to eat or sleep much - I'm too hyped up. So I've been systematically fasting during that time, or at least eating vegetarian. What other things have the members been trying and how are they working?
