Embrace Menopause as a Positive Healthy Life-Transition

By November 18, 2010 - 2:46pm

Menopause is certainly not a time to pause from men. In fact, we need to look to our male counterparts for support through this difficult physical and emotional process. It’s important for them to at least try and understand what some women go through during this transitional time in their life. Most women experience the typical irregular menstrual periods and hot flashes, which is more of a personal inconvenience. However some of the symptoms do affect our personal relationships such as sleep disturbances, mood swings, low libido (sex drive) and/or vaginal dryness, as well as numerous other discomforts. We need to educate ourselves how to naturally deal with this inevitable process, as well as help our partner and family know the best ways to be there for us through this trying time.

We may not even be aware of what’s going on, as signs of menopause may begin several years before we realize that our erratic behavior and mixed emotions mainly stem from hormonal imbalance. This menopause transition phase is called perimenopause (literally meaning “around menopause”). Other symptoms may include migraines, heart palpitations, joint and muscle pain, dry skin, thinning hair, weight gain and digestive problems, which can be due to fluctuating levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone that start as many as 10 years before menopause. Women who encounter these symptoms in their 30′s and 40′s are often prescribed sleeping pills, tranquilizers, anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medications. Rather than writing yourself off as completely crazy and polluting yourself with prescribed medications to minimize the symptoms, consider exploring natural ways to manage your variable disposition and physical conditions. As women experience the physical, emotional, and social changes of approaching menopause, each woman faces a unique opportunity to identify her own strategies for midlife wellness. In fact, reaching menopause is an ideal time to begin or reinforce a health promotion program that will provide benefits throughout the rest of a woman’s life.

As you notice your body going through various changes while aging, you can embrace this transformational process in a positive way. It can be a great time to reinvent yourself and gain a whole new lease on life! READ FULL ARTICLE AT: http://www.oceanusnaturals.com/blog/embracing-menopause/
