Has anyones lupus affected thier kidneys and if so what were the first symptons?

By October 27, 2011 - 4:51pm

I'm very frustrated right now I have been diagnosed with fibro about a year ago...but I have been dealing with all my symptons for 4 years now...the doctors did not take me serious until they found plus 4 of blood and protien in my urine...so I went to the kidney doctor and he said that as long as my kidneys are functioning there really isn't anything they can do ...so I went to a rhuemy. for all the pain I was going through and he quickly told me I had fibro and IBS and that was that. This last time I went to see him I wanted to tell him about me new symptons which was fevers for no reason, easily bruising, the blood and protien in my urine, loosing hair by the handfuls, and that my cousin was recently diagnosed with lupus and that we had found out that my grandfather which of whom no one in the family talks to also has it...but he acted like none of that mattered because I don't have the rash and my ana has came back negative. But it can't be normal for someone to have that much blood and protien in thier urine so I was wondering if anyone who has been diagnoed with lupus has had problems with their kideys and if so what was the early symptons? I would appreciate any feed back or ideas right now I'm so frusteraed with doctors because I know how I feel and I know there is something going on and they will not listen to me!!!

Hello this is Blonejlt & it sounds like your getting the same run around I did for a year. I was just recently diagnoised 3 weeks ago after being told everything you have been told before. I finally saw a blood specialist even tho my doctors thought it was lupus but I wasn't testing positive. The blood doctor told me it could take up to 5-7 years to test positive and it's a very hard disease to test for but she also being in practice for over 30 years said I had every sign and symptom. If you don't get answers from the doctor your with move on or remember your in charge. You can ask for any testing you want done or any specialist you want to see. Lupus attacks the kidneys number one if you have it eternally wich I do. It al started with the pain in my knees sweelling to the point I can't walk now the pain in my body is so bad and my liver has been bad for almost a year and I don't drink nor use drugs & come to find out lupus attacks the liver as well. My body has swollen up so bad to where I gain 60 pounds in 2 months from fluid from my kidneys not working right. I start my treatment next week. I'll be praying for you that you get some answers and they start treating you. If you ever have any questions plz don't hesitate to ask. It sounds like you have been down the same road as me & If it wasn't for my regular docs I don't know where Id be. Best of luck and I hope I was of some help.:)
