Causes of Pelvic Pain in Men

By October 30, 2018 - 6:52am

Pelvic pain in men and women is different due to the differences in their reproductive system. In men, it mostly has two backgrounds – the neural tension and psychogenic action. Multiple complicated factors lead to the appearance of pelvic pain in men.

The Clinical Picture of Pelvic Pain in Men
The pain may have a dull or burning character; its intensity may vary tending to increase. The localization is mostly down from the navel to the lower abdomen but can also occur in the lumbar, rectal or perineal area. Very often, it spreads far behind its initial localization. If it lasts more than six months, then it’s considered chronic.
It may occur by itself or together with other pathological manifestations. The mechanism of its occurrence is connected with the increased sensitivity of the neural cells of CNS. Very often, it occurs because of the tailbone or patella bone injuries that damage the nervous structures.

Most Common Causes of Pelvic Pain in Men
If there were no such injuries, it is necessary to consider other causes of the nervous receptors’ irritation. The most frequent of them are:
Inflammatory processes in the lower part of the spine
Improper blood circulation in the osseous tissue
Increased activity of the osseous neurons
Spastic activity in a patient

Internal Organs’ Diseases
Chronic prostatitis is among the most frequent causes of pelvic pain in men. A bacterially conditioned inflammation causes pain that increases during urination. If the seminal hillock is inflamed, pain may also occur during ejaculation.
Pain can also spread over the back part of the spine, lumbar area, urethra and even the medial part of the hips. This should not be left without attention because a cancerous prostate pathology may have the same symptoms.

Neural Damage
A disorder of the nerve fiber starts from the damage of the genital nervous cord. It occurs because of dystrophic processes in the lumbar vertebrae that cause pathological transformations in the spine. The nervous fiber doesn’t work properly and the connective tissue gets stiff. In addition, pelvic muscle tension causes pain during urination.

Treatment of Pelvic Pain
Depending on the result of diagnostics, a complex approach is necessary here. As soon as the pain occurs, visiting doctor is a must. No matter what will be the treatment plan, it is recommended to avoid overcooling, maintain a healthy diet, and support the immune system. How long will treatment of the pelvic pain take, depends on how neglected the condition is.
