After knee surgery

By Blogger February 7, 2012 - 8:06pm

Two weeks ago I had my meniscus repaired. I had a lateral and medial tear. Last April, I thought I had just "tweaked" my knee while exercising in karate. But it never healed. I did PT, but it still never healed. So finally, my doctor sent me to an ortho doc and upon the MRI, he found the tears. I am glad I had it done, but trying to get back into working out with my lower body is scary because I don't want to mess up the repair.

I am doing my PT and doing my stretches, but any other things you can offer to help the recovery period and getting me up and jumping around again?

I too just had knee surgery and I was certain I would bounce back faster.
I have been doing my exercises and stretches, but some days the pain is such that I wonder how long it will be before I can play tennis.
The doctor gave me a very "optimistic" idea of recovery, however I am just trying to take it one day at a time and keep stretching. I am going to PT as well, and I would tell anyone having this surgery that PT is not optional if at all possible! You need to have someone push you past the pain and the fear of hurting your knee further.

Thank you. That looks just like the brochure the surgeon showed me. It's probably the same publishing company. I am wondering if any other exercises or stretches could help bounce back faster. I'm doing the PT and it helps, but honestly with my co-pay, I can only afford twice a week. Then I try and stretch myself at home and ice every night. But my quad still seems weak and my knee is very tender still where I can't go down on my left knee at all. I'm just glad my karate instructors know and understand things so when I attempt to do a defense, they know I have to simulate a knee move
