atrial fib

By April 6, 2011 - 7:06am

It's been a few months now since I found out I have AF. As soon as I knew, I had to find ways to take back control of my health. I'm not going to let AF control me, no siree! I quit smoking. I stopped drinking diet sodas. I stopped eating sugars and carbs, and I lowered my salt intake. I needed to do everything all at once because, not only did I have AF, but I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, too many extra pounds around my middle, and was seriously fatigued. AND I wanted results FAST!! I weighed 170 lbs. when I started. Within 3 weeks my weight was down to 150 lbs! YES! It wasn't easy, but well worth all the aweful cravings, serious hunger pains, constant constipation, and feeling tired most of the time. I included a daily walk as my exercise routine. When our Canadian winter hit here in Ontario I bought a treadmill which I use almost every day twice daily for 20 minutes each time. In March I saw my doctor again and had blood work done and another EKG. The results were all positive. I wore a halter heart monitor for 24 hours too. The halter showed a problem with my heart rhythm when I am in deep sleep. My heart rate slows down too much. I recently went for a sleep study so the technicians could monitor my heart rate. The sleep study was aweful! You can't really sleep much as there are wires stuck to you everywhere! Anyway, I won't know the results of the sleep study until July 12. If you don't know what a sleep study is you can find websites with video to show you. Just google and you'll find them. I have continued to eat right, watch my calorie intake, and I don't eat anything after dinner at all. I have a cup of black tea around 8pm and that's it. I try to drink lots of water too. I don't really like it! blah! Anyway, I hope I can inspire other women to take care of themselves and if you need someone to talk to, by all means, leave me a message in my inbox. Love and Blessings. Dianne :)
