What got you to the point where you are considering adoption?

By September 20, 2010 - 12:40pm

You want kids, you now are considering adoption. Have you only considered adoption, did you try and have kids (naturally, or through fertility treatments) on you own, or have you ever considered fostering? I'm curious to find out what you have to say.

I have many friends who have tried to have children on their own and couldn't. They have tried fertility, and have looked into adoption. I know from hearing their stories, it can be a heart wrenching and expensive process. I sincerely am interested in hearing what women have to say about it all. I myself have considered fostering, but am scared, as you said, Linda about the unknown, and the emotional strength it would take.
Thank you for your comment, Linda.

There is a considerable difference between fostering a child and adopting a child. Fostering certainly gives people an opportunity to care for children, but the uncertainty about the length of the foster care arrangement and the reality that the child may not be available for adoption requires a lot of emotional strength. The permanency of adoption and the opportunity to parent a child from infancy is more appealing to some people. Some families adopt and foster.
