Allie Hoeland, a gastroparesis advocate, shares how women with this condition can regain control in their lives.
Allie Hoeland:
Getting control of the body really helps you feel like you are in the driver’s seat and gastroparesis isn’t and that’s one of the things that I found over the last year has helped me become a more positive and happy person even on those really bad days.
For me, that’s doing yoga, which is relaxing or going to the gym and feeling like I do have control over something, I just don’t have control over everything and that maybe in a physical sense of having control over your body; that maybe in a personal sense of trying to strengthen all your connections with your friends and be the best friends you can be or the best family member or finding a way that you can really succeed at work or having a hobby or anything that makes you feel like this disease isn’t the only thing that defines you.
