Dr. Pam Peeke is back! How can health and fitness help you enjoy your years? Dr. Pam Peeke explains how. Check it out!

Dr. Pam Peeke: Now, I never used the word lifespan. I never say if we were doing all these we can live a million years. Really? No. I used the word health span. I want you to have the largest number of years of health and vitality that you can in your life, not just quantity of years but the quality of those years, got to work for it.

There is a great quote from my book “Body for Life for Women” that I love to use. This is a woman whose name is Betty, who is a breast cancer survivor and she is what I called one of my peak performers, you know, my wild and crazy patients who loved to come with me on many of my retreats and I had taken there up to Aspen with a big group of us and she had optimized her body composition.

She was in her mid 50s and she had a rough time with breast cancer but now she was doing much better. She finally was able to just sort of address taking care of her mental and physical fitness. She said something it was interesting. “I remember reaching the summit of the mountain and gazing at the unspeakable beauty of the vast panorama of mountain tops that surrounded me, amazed at my accomplishment. It was then that I suddenly realize that any worry thoughts about cancer were gone. Instead I was filled with such a peaceful calm as I became aware of the power of my body and the strength of my mind and the last thing on my mind was gosh, my thighs are too big”.

It was kind of interesting. When you take care of yourself in a more holistic way like this, not only can you see visual changes of fitness but what really drives the whole thing is what is going on here. I think Betty is a beautiful voice for that, so go and find your own voice.
