Exercising Early

Rate This

Today I did something I haven't done in a long time. I woke up early, dusted off my elliptical trainer and exercised for about 20 minutes. I listened to a recording of a conference call I missed and felt like I was getting a great start to the day.

The kids were even up and ready for school early. They were outside playing with their friends about 20 minutes before it was time to go. Usually I have to lure them away from their toys and negotiate getting dressed and out the door. It was a pleasant change :)

This gives me hope that I will be able to implement my new routine more easily than I realized. I've been telling myself for the past few weeks that I need to get up earlier and get some exercise first thing in the morning, but I've been lazy and reluctant to get out of bed. I've also used the excuse that the kids are going to bother me, but it wasn't an issue this morning.

It goes to show that a lot of times what is stopping us from moving forward is ourselves and the little voice inside our head. When you can say yes to something and ignore that little voice, some great things can happen.

I love getting up early before the rest of my family. The house is so quiet and I can get so much done. One day I'll work, the next exercise, and I always feel good I've achieved so much before the day has begun. As Alysiak said it will become a habit before long.
I do find by about 9.30pm I am usually exhausted and head to bed. I sleep well too!

Get up 30 minutes early to enjoy 20 minutes of exercise. Repeat 3 weeks straight and it becomes a habit.

Besides, in addition to improved health and at the risk of craving your newly found endorphins, you'd be setting a good example for your children.

Good for you for just getting up and getting it done! It is such a good feeling and it stays with you the rest of the day. It usually gives me more energy! I think a lot of people are afraid to wake up early and exercise and usually look for excuses not to. My mom always told me and my brother this saying that stuck with me:

"Early to bed and early to rise makes a man (or woman) healthy, wealthy, and wise." :)

So get up early tomorrow, even if it's just 20 minutes. I promise you won't regret it!
