Dr. Parish explains if low testosterone can cause sexual dysfunction in women.

Dr. Parish:
I think this is very controversial. We have been discussing this at a number of meetings and there’s been a number of consensus panels on this. There’s some who believe that there are correlations with low T, low testosterone and sexual dysfunction, and there was a performance of the use of testosterone to remedy symptoms in a low testosterone in a particular subgroup of women.

Others believe that their data has not shown a good correlation between low testosterone clinical symptoms and the clinical response to therapy showing that a change in testosterone shows an improvement in symptoms.

There’s been a lot of variability in levels, some women who have low-T, or low testosterone, have symptom, some don’t. But if a woman has symptoms, and she has low testosterone it may suggest, and she is an appropriate candidate, it may suggest that she is a candidate for treatment.
