Dr. Harness discusses the causes of ductal carcinoma in situ.
Dr. Harness, M.D.:
Don’t know the cause, don’t know the cause of breast cancer. We know things that are increased risk factors for breast cancer: delayed birthing, not having any children at all, prolonged use of hormone replacement therapy, family history of breast cancer. All cancers begin as in situ, originally meaning early cell growth, usually in this case inside a hollow duct, if you will. But the cause is really unknown.
