Dr. Harness explains if ductal carcinoma in situ is a fatal condition.
Dr. Harness, M.D.:
Very, very, very uncommonly, and then therefore by definition, it’s really not in situ. It may have been called in situ. If you track all patients with in situ breast cancer, a like one percent mortality rate has been associated with the disease, which means that the pathologists originally missed the area of invasive cancer. If the cancer is purely in situ, then it is not fatal.
