Low carb diets have become very popular because participants can see the results they are working towards quickly.

The problem is that once they have lost the weight and are trying to maintain that goal weight by remaining on the diet, the high levels of saturated fat are not healthy to the heart. Saturated Fat should only be about 7% of the diet, whereas, on a diet like the Atkins Diet participants on average intake around 15%.

At high levels of saturated fat the cholesterol levels rise, reducing blood vessel dilation and increasing risk for heart disease.
