Diets don’t work. Yet millions of Americans start a new one every day. I know people that have been on every diet you could imagine; Weight Watchers, South Beach diet, the grapefruit diet, the cabbage diet, low carbs, low fats, Atkins, Slim Fast, you name it. Sure they had good results – while dieting, but the weight always comes back. People don’t want to accept that weight loss requires a lifestyle change, something permanent.

There’s no quick weight loss program out there and no magic pill. Television is flooded with commercials for weight loss products like Trimspa, Xenical, Hydroxycut, Alli and Phentermine and when I see them I always wonder what kind of person could possibly believe they work?

In addition to the many health concerns that being overweight can cause its also unhealthy for chronically overweight people to constantly gain and lose weight. Losing weight is tough and a commitment has to be made. The simple truth is that a small step can start you in the right direction, eat smaller portions, refuse seconds, and cut back on junk food and snacks. A little exercise like walking helps too.

Look, you don’t have to have a body like Kate Moss and you don’t need to work out like you’re training for the Olympics. Buy fewer high calorie snack foods, switch to diet soda, eat more fruits and veggies, cut down on desserts just use common sense. It’s a lot less expensive.
