Personal Chef Melissa Costello describes the vegan lifestyle and clean eating.
Chef Melissa Costello:
Hi. I am Melissa Costello. I am a personal chef and a wellness coach and I speak to women about health, nutrition and wellness.
To be vegan means that you don’t eat any animal products at all. I think there’s different levels of vegans. Some vegans go as far as not wearing any animal products; no leather, things like that. Also they won’t eat any products from insects like honey, and then there’s the vegans that will still wear leather but won’t eat any animal products at all, including dairy, fish, honey, you know, things like that. So there’s kind of different levels of it.
Clean eating is really basically eating the least amount of processed foods. I always tell my clients, try to do 80:20 if you can do that. Eat 80% whole foods, 20% minimally processed foods. So when I say ‘minimally’ just kind of what I mentioned before about reading your labels, making sure that there’s no chemicals and making sure you can pronounce everything that’s on the label. So eating clean is really about whole foods, things with the least amount of ingredients, the least amount of . . . no chemicals, no fillers, things like that.
