Dr. Horwitz describes an anti-inflammatory diet.

Dr. Horwitz:
So an anti-inflammatory diet is our response to what’s become inflammation in our foods now. We are having more processed foods. We are having more animal products in our diet and these create the milieu in your body where inflammation can develop and most chronic diseases have as their basis inflammation. We never used to think that but now we know cardiac disease, coronary artery disease is inflammatory, the autoimmune conditions, inflammatory. Who knows, cancer may have an inflammatory component as well. So it’s really important that you change your phenotype or your stature from an inflammatory to a non-inflammatory. So the anti-inflammatory diet is a way to achieve that.

Basic components include things such as avoiding animal products, a plant-based diet which is beneficial, increasing fats. Fats should comprise 30% of your diet. Most people say fats are terrible in your diet, that’s not the case. You just have to choose them wisely.

You have to choose your carbohydrates wisely and have more of the complex carbohydrates as opposed to the simple carbohydrates that trigger insulin release. So, the anti-inflammatory diet is more of a lifestyle change than a strict, rigid diet. Components often include exercise as well, things you can do to decrease inflammation in the body.
