Healing Always Happens Exactly When you Need It

It is wonderful when unexpected loving experiences show up as part of my projects. I had just such an experience a few minutes ago. Let me set the stage for you: at the beginning of Project Yum, which I have written about in recent articles, my friend Rebecca sent me recipe suggestions from her cookbook that she thought would be a joy for me to cook for my friend. I glanced over the list and agreed with everything and decided to include a few with each delivery.

I noticed that she recommended some teas and elixirs on the list. I thought to myself, I wonder why she wanted me to make teas? Our friend loves tea and has multiple types of tea at home and work so she doesn’t need me to make any for her. After a couple of weeks of paging through the recipes and cooking different meals I kept passing the tea section and read one of the teas Rebecca recommended: Commonwealth’s most nourishing and healing tea. It reminded me of a tea one of my classmates used to make for us while we were studying. I liked the tea very much while I was in school and thought to myself, I will include this on one of my drop-offs.

I didn’t get around to making the tea until one of the last days of the project. I felt badly that I kept putting it off because it doesn’t require much work--it really just needs to simmer for about an hour. At any rate I finally made it. I was happy to have it to give to my friend. Rebecca wrote in her book that the tea feels like a hug! This morning my friend sent me a message explaining she had been out of touch because it was such an intense week. As soon as I read her note I realized that this tea, that had been brewed with love, was exactly what she needed this week. It was perfect timing that I made it for her this time and not before today! It was a great reminder to me that things happen in the right time, always! This was a relief to me because I actually felt badly that I didn’t get to making Rebecca’s recommendation earlier in the project. I now know I made it exactly when I needed to.

The point of this story is to remember that blessings show up whenever they are supposed to and they cannot be forced. Wonderful surprises to increase the joy of someone’s day can be big or small. I was putting pressure on myself for not making something for my friend but when I did, it was a perfect gift at the perfect time. I hope to be more gentle with myself and remember that if something takes longer than I thought to get accomplished it is okay--I just need to change my expectation of when it gets done.
