Can Gluten-Free Products Taste Good?

Some people are either allergic to gluten or have celiac disease, while others are simply steering clear of gluten for the health benefits of eliminating or reducing it in their diet. The gluten found in wheat, it is said, can be difficult to digest and lead to inflammation and other uncomfortable conditions.

So what do you do if you're choosing either permanently or "for now" to cut back or cut out the gluten? Can you still enjoy food? Eat out? Indulge in a brownie or cookie or even, at birthday bashes, some yummy cake? The answer, resoundingly, is "Yes! Yes you can!"

Gluten-free does not mean flavor-free, not by a long shot.

Gluten-free products will not contain barley, oats, rye or wheat, but quinoa, amaranth, teff, Montina, sorghum, millet and buckwheat are still on the menu. There are flourless chocolate cakes and brownies, pancakes and waffles, and burritos to be had.

As with any change in your diet, please discuss your health with your physician and gather expert advice whenever necessary. Certain food items may taste better than others depending on their preparation and always remember, fresh fruits and vegetable will sustain you when the going gets tough.

There are a number of gluten free products out there that make the transition/lifestyle very easy. Kinnikinnick foods makes a wonderful glazed donut that is just as good and sweet as the real thing (they make a number of other gf baked good products as well). Also, Helen's Kitchen is a frozen food, vegetarian company with products like tofu steaks and burrito bowls that are also gluten free. I'm interested to hear which products helped you transition?
