Lisa gives advice for women who think they may have Crohn's disease, but are afraid to have a colonoscopy.
Lisa:
The worst part about the colonoscopy is the prep. You really can’t eat much the day before and, you know, you have to drink your solution, so you’re, the best colonoscopy is when you’re totally clean. There are newer colonoscopies today that you have to swallow a camera and they will take the picture, which is less of a prep and it’s less invasive for people, but I really think people need to toughen up and not be afraid of the colonoscopy because, if the doctor sees something on a camera over the computer, if they see like a polyp or something that looks pre-cancerous or cancerous, then you’re going to have to go back and do the prep again and do the colonoscopy because they’re not physically in there.
So it’s just, you should not be afraid of it. It’s no big deal. Sedation is quite relaxing and it’s probably a 20-minute procedure that you don’t remember even that night because of the sedation. I find it relaxing.
