Lisa provides advice for other women with Crohn's disease, particularly those who were recently diagnosed, and shares how EmpowHER has helped her live with this condition.

Lisa:
If I was talking to a woman recently diagnosed with Crohn’s I would tell them to just be, if they want to be like me they are going to tell everybody what’s going on. It’s not something that you can go in, in a private way. You have to be on the same page with your doctors. You have to be on the same page with your family.

This is a disease that affects the entire family. You want to cancel a lot of dinners. You don’t feel like going in the car. You are just not yourself when you are in a Crohn’s flare.

It’s a bad break, I would tell them that but you can have a lot worse things. So you do what your doctor says and don’t try to medicate yourself and it’s a lifestyle change, definitely.

I am going to say that listening to other women’s Crohn’s stories helps me because I have seen some of your other interviews on your site with people with much worse cases than mine and I sympathize with them, but I am also very grateful that I am not at that point, but to see them encourages me if some day I do get to that point because I always feel like this disease is a ticking time bomb; you don’t know when it’s going to show up.

It gives me support from afar and it gives me encouragement that these people are okay if my condition should happen to get worse one day, which I hope it doesn’t.
